The inventor of Benedict Chess which is played at Schemingmind.com also invented a variant called Cleopatra Chess which has a seduction idea like the one you mention. http://www.chessvariants.org/difftaking.dir/cleopatra.html
yes you would have to 'fine tune' Seducer, i just gave basic idea.
Speaking of joke games, in my first version of Quintessential Quadrupeds, both kings were in check from the start (again, this was unintentional and only hard experience taught me this).
Yes, that sort of thing, Christine, good idea, although it sounds a bit coercive. Perhaps certain pieces can be more vulnerable to seduction than others. A seduction could also involve being attracted to a piece that falls within a certain range (thus having to move one or two squares closer to it - opposite to the effect of the fearsome ghast of nemoroth). An attractive piece, literally... Well, one idea is that a piece falling in love with another piece has to follow it around. Such a thing could happen if a piece gets struck by a cupid piece which could operate similarly to the coordinator in ultima and such variants. The coordinator carries its move out by drawing an imaginary love triangle so to speak between itself, its king and another piece. A cupid piece could form triangles among all sorts of pieces, friendly and foe alike.
Good on you Joe, yes plenty of time till xmas :) Jeremy, yes i forgot to say in last post, your 'valentine' theme sounds interesting indeed, pieces falling in love with each other!?!, sounds good. How would you go about that. idea for a piece ... let's call it a 'seducer' he he, when a white Seducer moves next to any black piece (except king), the black piece (or pieces) change to white, remaining that way as long as the seducer is next to them.
Okay, count me in. I can come up with at least one thing by Christmas. :-)
Yes, you have five different points and I hope everyone reads them all. I endorse the proposal in its entirety. Just wanted to single out that one because it was a chance for me to advance the Valentine's Day theme idea.
Jeremy let me just point out the games don't have to be xmas related, that was just one idea along with joke/funny/silly games, bizzare games etc. i do like your giraffe story game lol, if the xmas pack becomes a reality that game should be included with your story of it he he :)
Regarding your idea of submitting games with X-Mas related themes...
J.K. L. and I also have the suggestion also of having a Valentine's Day themed variants (contest?) day.
We started working together shortly before last Valentine's Day but then realized we needed more time so maybe next Valentine's Day, I'll have some Valentine's Day related themes to submit. John and I thought of some ideas for a cupid piece, cupid's army pieces, romeo and juliet pieces, pieces that could fall in love with each other, pieces that suffered from unrequited love, etc.
Sounds like fun. I have a joke game which wasn't meant to be a joke. It featured giraffes and it turned out that White could checkmate on his first move. I already submitted that to chessvariants yahoogroup (before I figured out the joke so the joke was on me, as it turned out).
I like the idea! Personally, I would be interested in doing something along the lines of idea number 4...
>> 4. not sure about this, but maybe another idea for a game could be 'bizzare' ... of course 'bizzare' games can be completely serious, still, it could be an idea.
i have had an idea for a while, tell me what you think. i thought it could be fun if the game inventors put out a 'xmas pack', anyone who wants to contribute a game (zrf) can, and we put it all together, and release at cv site xmas eve. This is NOT a competition. i have thought of a couple of good ideas for games, i think, anyway see what you think. (idea numbers 3 and 4 main ideas) 1. people who have an already existing game could release a variant of that game, or release with different graphics. 2. old histroic variants of shogi and shatranj etc could be done with different graphics, anything not already done would be ok .. example would be ancient shogi variant done with alfaerie graphics etc. 3. Now an interesting idea i think would be people could contribute a 'funny/joke/silly' game, because people do not normally release these types of games, not being serious enough etc. With all the weird and wonderful game inventors around, i'm sure people could make, or already have, some cool games. It would be fun to see. 4. not sure about this, but maybe another idea for a game could be 'bizzare' ... of course 'bizzare' games can be completely serious, still, it could be an idea. 5. people could just do a game for the 'xmaspack', with a 'xmas' related theme, graphics, etc etc, or, you could just do a game, it doesn't even have to chess (yes?). if the name 'xmaspack' is unsuitable, then 'newyearpack' or whatever. anyway, it just sounds like it could be a fun idea, what do you think?
